Poetic Thoughts Spoken Directly - Original poetry by Sharrif Simmons.
These poems should be shouted out loud. Ripped out of
books and left drifting on sidewalks, glued to walls and
posted in shelters, used as blankets in cold and fan the
overheated, comfort the voiceless and act as weapons
against the cruel.
These words were forged from unexpected pain,
sudden loss, consistent change and the random patterns in
fractals. They span from Sirius to Shashemene, Miami to
Marrakesh, Union Island to Addis Ababa, from Harlem to
Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles and Birmingham.
These thoughts have been soaked in trauma, bitten by
the venom of fists and guns, broken by American steel and
bullets, cosseted by the elements of Earth, Wind and Fire,
the burning sun and the Keys of Life.
They’ve watched this human experiment for years.

cargo I am. We are the scions of stardust, whips, chaos and
mayhem, called out of our names like beasts of burden. You

search of a switch, discovering freedom in change, the place
of shared faces and new language. Our sutured wounds
mend our broken future, re-imagining a dying world with
